Founded in 1991, the school works with children from 2 to 12 years of age providing a complete, holistic education based on a philosophy of "Total Communication." This includes initial evaluation, audiometric tests, language therapy, social service, psychology for students and parents, as well as a school for parents for learning sign language. They also offer sign language courses for the general public and computer use. The students also participate in social and cultural activities in the community as well as local and national sports activities.
With the generous support from Sandra Pursell and Jeannie Kokes, we send funds to the Centro Educativo para Ninos Sordos y Ciegos in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala to help the poorest families of deaf and blind children afford transportation costs to the school and to pay for vocational workshops offered by the school. We help approximately 50 families per year.
